Beyin ölümü vücudun başta solunum olmak üzere tüm fonksiyonlarının çalışmasını sağlayan ve yöneten beyin sapı ve ilişkili sinirlerin geri dönüşümsüz hasarıdır. Beyin ölümü tıbbi ve yasal olarak ölümdür. Beyin ölümünden sonra kalp bir süre çalışır ancak daha sonra kalp de durur.

Beyin ölümü tanısı en az iki uzman hekimin detaylı klinik değerlendirmesi ve bazı ek testlerle konulur, kayıt altına alınır ve Sağlık Bakanlığına bildirimi yapılır. Tüm süreç Sağlık Bakanlığı Yönetmeliği çerçevesinde yürütülür. 

Beyin ölümü olan kişilerden organ bağışı süreci hastayı takip eden doktorlar tarafından değil hastanenin, Sağlık Bakanlığı bilgisi ve denetimi altında olan Organ Nakli Koordinatörlükleri tarafından yürütülür. Organ bağışı, organ bekleyen pek çok hasta için umut olmaktadır.

Sosyal medyada beyin ölümü tanısının organ mafyası ile ilişkilendirilerek konulduğu paylaşımların tamamı asılsızdır ve çok büyük bir özveri ile çalışan hekimlerimizi tarifsiz üzmüştür. Bu konuda Sağlık Bakanlığının da gerekli açıklamaları yapmasının uygun olacağını düşünür, kamuoyuna saygı ile duyururuz.

Within the scope of precautions taken by Health Authorities and the given extraordinary situation regarding COVID-19 infection which originated in China on December 2019 and was declared as a pandemic by World Health Organization, online meeting, conference and distance education activities will continue to constitute a significant part of our vocational lives.

In accordance with the requests from distinguished colleagues, our committee has decided to hold the congress with international participation virtually, which was planned to be held between November 16-19, 2020 at Cornelia Diomand Hotel, Antalya previously, as an E-Congress between November 16-18, 2020. We will organize the congress just as a physical congress by utilising all the necessary technological equipments. You will be able to participate actively to all sessions.

Intensive Care Ultrasonography Study Group, founded to contribute intensive care specialty, held its first meeting in Ankara Limak Hotel on 9 March, 2019.  President of the Executive Board, Assoc. The members of the Intensive Care Ultrasonography Study  Group Executive Board within the body of Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care were Prof. Dr. Gül Gürsel as the president, Uğur Özdemir as the secretary,  Dr.   Dr.  Assoc. Dr. Emre Karakoç, Dr. Aslıhan Yalçın, Dr. Pervin Hancı and Dr. Hüseyin Arıkan.

The Study Group, which aims to improve the knowledge and skills of intensive care specialists in the field of ultrasonography, will organize a one-day course consisting of theory and practical training in April, May and October in 2019.

The activities of the Intensive Care Ultrasonography Study Group, which aims to plan research projects to obtain core national data, were summarized as follows:

To prepare educational materials such as books and guides to improve vocational training; To contribute to the establishment of the annual congress, qualification course and the scientific programs of local courses, to support the training of young researchers, to contribute to the training curriculum of the Intensive Care Competence Board, to cooperate with other associations and organizations provided that the approval of the Board of Directors of TDCY.

Advanced Applications in Invasive Mechanic Ventilation Course was held on December 7, 2019 at Ankara City Hospital with GE CARESCAPE R860 device.
